Tube Map Walks: District and Hammersmith & City
District and Hammersmith & City
Hit the street again today for another part of my 'Mind The Gap Challenge' and my last walk for Walk This May. This time was the turn of the District line section from Upminster to Tower Hill, taking in part of the Hammersmith & City line (Barking to Aldgate East).
The District line is 40 miles (64 km) long and serves 60 stations, 25 of which are below ground, and unlike the deep-level lines, the railway tunnels are just below the surface, and the trains are of a similar size to those on British mainline.
The Hammersmith & City line runs between Hammersmith and Barking. It serves 29 stations in 15.8 miles (25.5 km). It is underground in the central section between Paddington and Bow Road; between Farringdon and Aldgate East it skirts the City of London, the capital's financial heart.
Distance: around 19.5 miles.
