Orange You Glad I Made Cake!

Wright's are a successful producer of baking 'mixes' that require very little in the way of additional ingredients, often requiring nothing more than a splash of water, or in the case of this new Orange Cake Mix, water plus a splash of vegetable oil. Whilst many of us love to bake 'from scratch', these pre-measured dry mixed can really take the fear away for many a novice baker, or simply someone running a little short on time.
To celebrate the launch of the new orange cake mix, we were tasked with making any one of the selection of suggestions on the packet, from loaf cake or tray bake to 24 cupcakes. We decided that we'd go a little 'off piste' with a dome cake and transform it into a larger than life orange!
The cake mix couldn't be easier. Pour the dry mix into a bowl and add water and oil, then whisk. Voila! Smooth and glossy cake batter in seconds. Now onto the tin...
We know our dome cake tin can be rather tricky when it comes to getting something out of it. It's a pain to line yet you can't get a palette knife in to pry anything out. This was the perfect opportunity to try out a tip from Bake Off alumnus, Nancy Birtwhistle with her cake tin lining paste. We whipped up a batch with light olive oil as we were out of vegetable oil, but the results speak for themselves. Not a single crumb stuck!
We crumb coated our cooled cake with an orange scented buttercream before icing with fondant.
