E (Eastern)

The current E postcode area was originally formed in 1866 as a merger of the E and NE areas. In 1917, the postal districts were numbered alphabetically by their location; the districts usually cover a wider area than their names might suggest. As of 2004, the district names do not form part of the postal address.

Today's walk started at Wapping, ended in South Woodford and went through the following E postcode areas: E1W - Wapping, E1 - Eastern Head District, E2 - Bethnal Green, E8 - Hackney, E9 - Homerton, E5- Clapton, E10 - Leyton, E17 - Walthamstow, E4 - Chingford, and E18 - Woodford and South Woodford.

Distance: around 12.5 miles.
