Epping Forest Centenary Walk

Epping Forest Centenary Walk

Today's walk was a rather muddy wander through an ancient woodland, following the Epping Forest Centenary Walk. The 15 mile route was devised in 1978 to mark the centenary of The Epping Forest Act 1878 which saved the forest from enclosure, halted the shrinkage and placed it into the care of the City of London Corporation who act as the conservators. The route isn't signposted, so you'll need a map, and can be walked from Manor Park to Epping or vice versa.

If you want to learn more, the City of London website has an excellent page about the history of Epping Forest from prehistory to the present day.

Distance: around 17 miles (including some rather muddy detours).
