Cycle Superhighway 2

Cycle Superhighway 2

Twelve new bicycle routes, dubbed Cycle Superhighways, were announced in 2008 by Mayor Ken Livingstone, with the aim of creating continuous cycle routes from outer London into and across central London by the end of 2012. The routes were mapped with the numbering based on a clock face, for example CS1 runs in a 1 o'clock direction. So far only seven are operational - CS1-CS3 and CS5-CS8.

Today's walked followed the CS2 route west from Stratford to Aldgate and then back east on the other side of the road to Stratford. Although walking the 4 mile route takes considerably longer than the advertised 24 minutes cycle from end to end, it is easy to miss the world whilst you are hurtling along the blue painted road, so at the slower pace more can be observed and enjoyed.

Distance: around 8 miles.
