Anspach & Hobday Tap Takeover: Oktoberfest
September is a big month in the beer calendar, because September means the start of Oktober(fest)! Now we know what you're thinking, 2 litre steins of cheap lager, lederhosen and busty maids! But, think again. This mini-Oktoberfest, with beer from one of Bermondsey's famous 'beer mile' breweries was classy with a capital K! Hosted in the National Theatre's brutalist bar 'The Understudy', we were treated to a wealth of teutonic inspiration courtesy of the brilliant Anspach & Hobday.
There were the classics, a pilsner and a lager, a heffeweizen and sour Berliner Weisse, along side some slightly more niche German brews; A smoky Rauchbier was certainly an acquired taste whilst the Altbier was straight out of a Düsseldorf brew house.
However, straight out of left field was the brew of the night and it was distinctly un-German. The A&H Porter is simply stunning.
